Did you know …

  1. A single cow produces enough milk to fill nearly 26,000 cans of drink a year.
  2. Cows have an acute sense of smell- they can smell something up to 6 miles away.
  3. A pig sqeal can reach 115 decibels - about the same as jumbo jet at take-off.
  4. Pigs are distant relatives of the hippopotamus. They do not have sweat glands, so roll in the mud to keep cool.
  5. There are 35 million sheep and lambs in the UK - more than the number of people living in Canada (33M)
  6. Sheep are sheared in early summer to keep them cool, producing 60,000 tones of whool each year.
  7. One medium sized potato contains 45% of the vitamin C we need each day to stay healthy.
  8. You could make about 1,500 loaves of bread from 1 tonne of wheat.
  9. 1 tonne of wheat contains 21 million grains.
  10. 1 hectare of oilseed rape - the crop with yellow flowers - could produce enough bio-diesel to power a family car 12,000 miles.
